Introduction of Professor GU Shenghua

GU Shenghua, male, Han nationality, was born in 1954 at Dazu County, Chongqing. He is now serving as a third-level professor of the School of Literature and Media, Chongqing University of Education, a member of the Specialized Committee for Chinese Teaching Method in National Secondary Schools, the Director of the Psychology of Chinese Language Learning Research Institute, and the Deputy Director of the Chongqing Institute of Primary Education Development in Rural Areas. He has long been engaged in the teaching of such courses as “Pedagogy of Chinese Language” and “Psychology of Chinese Language Learning”. Especially in the aspect of teacher training, he has made in-depth researches. His teaching achievement “Research on the Backbone Teacher Training Mode with the Concept of Curriculum Reform” (joint research) won the Second Prize for the Third Teaching Achievement Award issued by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and the First Prize for the First Teaching Achievement Award issued by Chongqing University of Education.

In addition to teaching, Professor Gu published over 70 articles in such academic journals as Journal of Subject Education, Exploring Education Development, and Psychological Development and Education, as well as 9 academic works including They Lose at the Starting Line – Reflection and Countermeasures on the Primary Education Issue of Rural Areas in West China (Chongqing Publishing House, 2005, Co-author), Cornerstone on the Beach – Research on the Fairness of Primary Education in Western Urban and Rural Areas from a Sociological Perspective (Sichuan Normal University Electronic Press, Jul. 2010, Sole Author), etc., wherein, the Psychology of Chinese Language Teaching in Primary Schools, the Psychology of Chinese Language Teaching in Secondary Schools and the Nonintellectual Factors and Chinese Language Learning passed the examination conducted by the Normal School Division of the Ministry of Education, and were recommended as textbooks for continuing education of Chinese teachers in national primary and secondary schools, reference books and textbooks for national teacher education. Psychology of Chinese Language Teaching in Primary Schools won the Second Prize for the Third Outstanding Primary Education Works Award of Chongqing; Nonintellectual Factors and Chinese Language Learning won the Third Prize for the Third Outstanding Achievement Award in Social Sciences issued by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government; They Lose at the Starting Line – Reflection and Countermeasures on the Primary Education Issue of Rural Areas in West China won the Third Prize for the Fourth Outstanding Achievement Award in Social Sciences issued by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government.

During the “9th Five-Year Plan” period, Professor GU presided over the World Bank Loan Project of the former State Education Commission (the Ministry of Education), i.e., the Normal School Education Development Project – JG123 Reform: “Research on Chinese Language Learning Ability”. During the “10th Five-Year Plan” period, he presided over the Key Subject on the “10th Five-Year Plan” of the Planning Office of National Education Science – “Research on the Implementation Difficulty and Countermeasures of Curriculum Reform of Primary Education in Western Rural Areas”. His research achievement won the First Prize for the Fourth Outstanding Achievement Award in Education and Scientific Research of Chongqing. Besides, he presided over the Humanities & Social Sciences Subject of the Chongqing Education Commission – “Research on the Implementation Difficulty and Countermeasures of Curriculum Reform of Primary Education in Chongqing Rural Areas”. During the “11th Five-Year Plan” period, he presided over the 2007 National Social Science Foundation Project – “Research on the Fairness of Primary Education in Western Urban and Rural Areas from a Sociological Perspective”.
