Research Institute of Teaching Staff Construction for Children of Rural Migrant Workers Won the Fourth Project of National Social Science Foundation

Recently, a good news was sent from the Office of National Philosophy and Social Science Planning that the National Social Science Foundation project of 2011 “Research on Policies for Left-behind Children in Rural Areas” directed and applied by Professor REN Yunchang of the Research Institute of Teaching Staff Construction for Children of Rural Migrant Workers was approved (Grant No.: 11XGL021). An official notice of project initiation has been sent. This is the second National Social Science Foundation project directed by Professor REN Yunchang as well as the fourth National Social Science Foundation project undertaken by the Research Institute of Teaching Staff Construction for Children of Rural Migrant Workers.

Professor REN Yunchang conducted and finished many scientific research projects above the level of province and departments, including the National Social Science Foundation project “Sociological Research on Education of Left-behind Children in Western Rural Areas”, the humanities and social science project of Chongqing Education Commission “Research on Education of Left-behind Children in Rural Areas of Chongqing”, and the social science project of Chongqing Science & Technology Commission “Research on Problems and Countermeasures of Teacher Development in Rural Areas of Chongqing”. Relevant research were submitted to the seniors in central departments twice and cited by documents of CPC Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Chongqing Municipal Government for three times. During that period, Professor REN Yunchang, as the core researcher, also participated in and finished many projects, such as the National Social Science Foundation projects “Research on Strategies for Harmonious Development between ‘Two Basic Problems’ Resolution and Culture Development in Western Rural Areas” and “Sociological Research on Equity of Basic Education in Western Urban and Rural Areas” undertaken by Basic Education Research Office of the Literature and Media Department, and the key project of national education science planning “Difficulties and Countermeasures in Curriculum Reform of Elementary Education in Western Rural Areas”. He made extensive academic accumulations in the research filed of left-behind children in rural areas. Also, on this basis, he successfully applied for another important project “Research on Policies for Left-behind Children in Rural Areas”.

In consideration of the current situation that the research of policies for left-children in rural areas in China is not systematic; the research method shall be improved; the research depth shall be expanded, the project systematically creates databases and analyzes texts for policy data of left-behind children in rural areas, and conducts comparative studies on policy designs, policy implementation effect and difficult problems and comprehensive studies on policy development and innovation. The significance of systematic research lies in: promote the healthy growth of thousands of left-behind children in China’s rural areas; facilitate the resolution of rural problems and rural migrant worker problems; accelerate the localization development of research and practice of children policies in China.

During declaration of the project, the in-depth research and discussion were carried out among Professor WANG Mingchun, Vice-President of the university, Professor ZHONG Guoxiang, Head of Scientific Research Office, Professor ZHANG Chengfeng, Director of the Literature and Media Department, Senior Professors LIN Jian and GU Shenghua of the teaching and research office of the Literature and Media Department, and all main researchers of the project, which fully reflected the basic ideas to solve problems of the research, development and implementation team in our university.
