Introduction of the Center

Chongqing Research Center of Overall Development of Urban-Rural Teachers’ Education is a scientific research platform built by our university in accordance with the construction standard for key research bases of humanities and social sciences in regular colleges and universities. Its predecessor is “Chongqing Institute for Primary Education in Rural Areas” founded in 2005 and “Chongqing Institute for Primary and Secondary School Management” (renamed Institute of Educational Administration in 2011), Chongqing University of Education. In 2008, on the basis of the existing research, the “Research on Primary Education in Rural Areas” Scientific Research & Innovation Team was founded; in 2009, the “Research Center of Teachers’ Education” was established additionally. In 2010, the research center combining the researchers of the Chongqing Academy of Educational Sciences applied for the 3rd Batch of Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Science in Chongqing, and passed the communication review and field review organized by Chongqing Municipal Education Commission. In Jan. 2013, upon the official approval of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, the research center became a member in the 3rd Batch of Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Science in Chongqing. The university built a R&D space covering over 300 square meters in the Academic Exchange Center for the research center to carry out researches. In the R&D space, there are institute studios, collaborative studios for local scientific research institutes and enterprises, studios for experts inside or outside the university to conduct researches, small meeting rooms for academic exchanges, office of the research center, etc. Besides, there is a literature reference room with over 3,000 books in the base, as well as an educational resource database in both Chinese and English built in cooperation with the library. The research center is affiliated to the Scientific Research Department. Its management system adopts director responsibility system. It employs relevant researchers to participate in research work in the center, and adopts a flow mode of “entering the center with academic projects, and leaving the center after completing projects”. At present, there is one director position and 3 deputy director positions in the center, as well as 4 institutes (Institute of Theory and Policy Development, Institute of Preschool Education Development, Institute of Compulsory Education Development, Institute of Continuing Education Development) and 10 application development studios which are committed to serving the growth and development of children aged 0-12. For the purposes of building the base into a think tank and information consulting base for developing development policies of teachers’ education in Chongqing, becoming a preferred partner for people at home and abroad to understand and study teachers’ education of Chongqing, forming a school of thoughts which participates in domestic and foreign academic dialogues with unique research results and methods, and becoming a cultivation base for high-quality talents of teachers' education in Chongqing and even Southwest China, the base will be constructed in accordance with the construction standard for first-class bases in humanities and social science around the whole city, and will strive to achieve the construction goal of creating a municipally first-class and nationally famous research institute within 5 years.
