Introduction of Professor CHEN Shijian

In 1987, he graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages, Southwest China Normal University, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree; in 1990, he graduated from the Department of Education, Southwest China Normal University, and obtained a Master of Education degree; from 1993 to 1994, he studied at Clark University as a visiting scholar; in 1999, he graduated from the Department of Education, East China Normal University, and obtained a PhD in Education; from Mar. 1990 to Feb. 2002, he worked at Guangxi Normal University; in Dec. 1992, he was promoted to an associate professor as an exception; in Dec. 1997, he was promoted to be a professor; in 1994, he served as the Deputy Director of the Department of Education, Guangxi Normal University; in 1999, he served as the Assistant Dean of the School of Education Sciences, Guangxi Normal University; in 2000, he served as the Dean of the School of Education Sciences, Guangxi Normal University; in Mar. 2002, he was transferred to the School of Education, Southwest China Normal University; in Apr. 2003, he served as the Vice President of Southwest China Normal University; in Jul. 2005, he served as the Vice President of Southwest University.

He presided over and participated in 3 key projects under the “7th Five-Year Plan” and “8th Five-Year Plan” of the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science, 8 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, as well as 3 UNESCO funding projects; successively published over 20 academic monographs such as Comparative Pedagogy, Comparative Education in Primary Schools, Comparative Educational Administration, Discipline Development and Research Methods of Comparative Education, An Introduction to Comparative Education, On Teachers: Exploring Teachers from a Multi-dimensional Perspective, Education Exploration of Minority Nationalities, History of Education for Chinese Ethnic Minorities, An introduction to the National Education by Lei Peihong, Moving Towards Innovative Education: Reflection and Prospect on Education Reform, Curriculum and Teaching, Theory of Classroom Management, Marginal Interpretation: Study on the Current Situation and Reform of Primary Education Curriculum in Guangxi, Boundary Spanning: Research on the Education of Girls in Guangxi Impoverished Minority Areas, Edge Rising: Research on the Community Learning of Women in Guangxi Impoverished Minority Areas, and A Study on School Education Reform and Teachers’ Adaptability, as well as more than 50 papers including “Subject System of Comparative Education and Its Construction”, “On the Paradigm and Growing Points of Comparative Education”, “Comparison of Modern Education Reform in Japan and China”, “Comparison of Teachers’ In-service Training in Developed Countries”, “Problems and Prospects of Developing Normal School Education”, “Modern Teaching under the Background of Internet Culture”, etc.

He once won the titles of Cross-Century Academic Leader of Guangxi Universities and Colleges, Top 10 Outstanding Young Teachers, and Sci-tech Personnel with Outstanding Contributions in Guangxi, and was selected into the second-level candidate for Guangxi “Thousand-Hundred-Ten Talents” Project. Among his project achievements, 2 books which he participated in editing won the First Prize for the National Achievement Award in Education and Scientific Research; 7 achievements won the Second and Third Prizes for the Provincial and Ministerial-level Outstanding Achievement Award in Scientific Research.
