Chinese Language and Literature Program

History:Founded in 1954, the Chinese Language and Literature program has enjoyed a history of nearly 70 years. It is the earliest liberal arts program with good tradition and rich heritage. The School of Literature and Media has once offered secondary and senior teacher training school diplomas and associate college degrees. In 2004, the School started to offer Chinese Language and Literature as a bachelor's degree program jointly with Chongqing Normal University. In 2012, the program started to enroll students independently after the restructuring of CQUE. In 2015, it was listed as a Chongqing Distinctive Program; In 2019, it was recognized by Chongqing Municipal Education Commission (CMEC) as a first-class program; At the end of 2020, it passed the MOE second-level certification as a teacher preparation program. In 2021, it will be ready to enroll international students.

Distinctive Strengths: The program has a number of training and research platforms, including the National Collaborative Innovation Experimental Base for Teacher Development, a National Chinese Language Training and Testing Center, the Chongqing Development Center for Primary and Secondary School Teachers, the Chongqing Training Base for Primary and Secondary School Chinese Backbone Teachers, the Research Institute for Children's Development, the Educational Resources Development Platform Based on Immersive Media for Students and the Institute of Applied Languages. With all of the resources, it is believed that the program should pass the MOE certification as a teacher preparation program and in-depth and continue to improve by the standards of the MOE.

The program taking staggered and distinctive development as its orientation has established a multi-level and three-dimensional professional development support system and formed a training system of pre-service and in-service education. It will continue to strive to deepen the multi-disciplinary integration of the Chinese language, literature, education, and communication to build a new curriculum with distinction. It will also set up studios to invite mentors from the related industries to help students develop individually.

Faculty and Students: There are 27 faculty members who are qualified to meet the needs of teaching and development of the program. Among them, 86.96% have master's degrees and 73.91% have senior academic titles. They graduated from Peking University, Nanjing University, Sichuan University, Lanzhou University, Central China Normal University Southwest University, and some other prestigious universities. Their specializations include linguistics, pedagogy, psychology, communication, and other disciplines. Among the part-time instructors, there are eight experienced experts and excellent professors, all with senior titles, showing good professionalism and teamwork spirit.

Graduates of the program work at schools, the Party, and government offices, enterprises, or institutions in different districts and counties of Chongqing and other cities in southwestern China. All in all, they have a good social reputation and are highly evaluated by employers.
