The Hotel Management Program at the CQUE was set up in 2013 as an orientation in the Tourism Management Program and was successfully approved to be open for enrollment as an independent program in 2016. In 2017, the program wasenrolled in a major category ofTourism Management Program. In 2018, the CQUE started the Co-sponsored High-level Application-oriented Undergraduate Education Program between the University of Central Lancashire, UK, and CQUE. The students in the program choose to study the courses from either Hotel Management, Tourism Managementor Exhibition Economy and Managementafter the first year of study. Currently, the CQUE offers the Hotel Management Program and the Hotel Management Sino-UK Joint Program.
The program was selected into the first batch of CQUE Transformation Pilot Programs in 2013. The program has a training center composed of several on-campus training rooms such as front halls, tea art houses, Chinese food restaurants, Western food bars, and guest rooms. In 2013, the training center was rated by the University as a Model Experimental Teaching Center. It has introduced the English hotel management information system "Opera" and the hotel operation management sand table.
The program aims at serving the economic development of Chongqing and pays close attention to the new business forms of hotels. Adhering to the school-running idea of "integrating industry and education", it has carried out extensive school-enterprise cooperation with domestic and foreign hotel management groups, major starred hotels, and other related service enterprises. It has cooperated with Marriott International Group and Intercontinental Hotel Group, and has established the first Marriott International Talent Training and Development Center in Southwest China, and has become a contracting party of the IHG Talent Training Program. To help students form systematic and professional knowledge and skills, the curriculum of the program was set up according to the hotel management system. To help students become international hotel managers, the School strives to expand international cooperation. By June 2021, the students in the program have won over 40 individual or group honors in national competitions, which is remarkable among universities and colleges in Western China. The outstanding achievements of the students are also noticeable nationwide. Graduates are highly recognized by enterprises and institutions such as starred hotels, restaurants, homestay, cruise ships, and vocational colleges at home and abroad, and have steadily developed to become the backbone of the industry.
