Introduction to Undergraduate Programs in School of Preschool Education

Preschool Education Program

Preschool Education is a core program at CQUE under the orientation of "serving the development of children aged 0-12". This program originated from the correspondence courses for continuing education offered by the then Chongqing College of Education in 1985. In 2010, the CQUE set up the School of Preschool Education (SPE) and started to offer full-time three-year associate degree preschool programs. After the restructuring in 2012, the program became one of the first full-time bachelor's degree programs offered by CQUE. Preschool Education is among the first batch of "Chongqing Distinctive Programs" approved by Chongqing Municipal Education Commision (CMEC) and has been selected into Chongqing Distinctive Program Group of Education Discipline. In 2018, it was selected as one of the five pilot teacher preparation programs to be evaluated by the MOE. In 2019, it was selected by CMEC to be built as a first-class college program. In 2020, it was selected to be built as a national first-class program. In 2021, it ranked in the top 25% of Best Chinese Universities Rankings (BCUR) 2021 released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

The education philosophy of the program is to "love and learn, love and care". Supported by the teaching and research platforms such as Chongqing Urban-Rural Coordinative Teacher Education Research Center, Chongqing Institute of Preschool Education, Chongqing Preschool Education Research Center, and Research Institute for Children's Development, the program focuses on the development of curriculum systems, strives for the teaching reform with practical teaching as the core, and has established a unique talent training mode with its own distinction. Inthepast five years, the employment rate of the graduates has exceeded 95%, and they have been playing important roles in childcare, preschool education, kindergarten management, and research with reputation.

Art Education Program

Art Education is a new undergraduate program at CQUE to empower the student to teach children art, especially music art. The program started to enroll students in 2017. With strong and well-respected faculty, the program takes education and art as the main courses and children's music education as the main direction. By developing its own curriculum, a system with four cores (core competence, core questions, core curriculum, and core course groups) has been established, and a curriculum with six different modules which promote students' personalized development has been formed. The program pays close attention to the teaching reform with practical application as the core and has formed its own distinctive talent training mode.

This program is offered by the School of Preschool Education with strong faculty, of whom over 50% are double-professionally-titled. Supported by the teaching and research platforms such as Chongqing Urban-Rural Coordinative Teacher Education Research Center (Chongqing Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences), Chongqing Institute of Preschool Education, Chongqing Preschool Education Development Center, and Research Institute for Children's Development, the School strives to build the first-class teacher preparation program in the field of children's art education.

Preschool Education (Sino-Foreign Joint Program)

Preschool Education (Sino-Foreign Joint Program) is a program jointly offered by the CQUE and the State University of New York at New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz). It was approved by the MOE in 2015 as a four-year bachelor's degree program (three years at CQUE plus one year at SUNY New Paltz) and has been listed into the National Enrollment Plan for General Institutes of Higher Education since then.

The program has its own distinction as a transnational program. It has introduced 20 courses from the State University of New York at New Paltz, accounting for 37% of the curriculum of the program. A total of 990 class hours have been introduced from the American university. This program employs an internationalized and localized talent training mode. After completing this program, students will not only have international vision and cross-cultural communication ability, but also prominent bilingual kindergarten teaching ability and childcare professional skills of preschool teaching.

The students of the program have made remarkable achievements. Among the students of Grade 2016, 25 graduates were admitted to universities at home and abroad to continue studying for master's degrees, accounting for 29.76% of theprogram graduates. The employment situation of the graduates is also promising. They work at public kindergartens, public institutions, state-owned enterprises, government departments, childcare centers, or choose to start up their own business.
