Introduction to Undergraduate Programs in School of Literature and Media

Chinese Language and Literature Program

History:Founded in 1954, the Chinese Language and Literature program hasenjoyed a history ofnearly 70 years. It is the earliest liberal arts program with good tradition and rich heritage. The School of Literature and Mediahasonce offered secondary and senior teacher training school diplomas and associate college degrees. In 2004, the School started to offer Chinese Language and Literature as a bachelor's degree program jointly with Chongqing Normal University. In 2012, the program started to enroll students independently after the restructuring of CQUE. In 2015, it was listed as a Chongqing Distinctive Program; In 2019, it was recognized by Chongqing Municipal Education Commission (CMEC) as a first-class program; At the end of 2020, it passed the MOE second-level certification as a teacher preparation program. In 2021, itwill be ready to enroll international students.

Distinctive Strengths: The program has a number of training and research platforms, including the National Collaborative Innovation Experimental Base for Teacher Development, a National Chinese Language Training and Testing Center, the Chongqing Development Center for Primary and Secondary School Teachers, the Chongqing Training Base for Primary and Secondary School Chinese Backbone Teachers, the Research Institute for Children's Development, the Educational Resources Development Platform Based on Immersive Media for Students and the Institute of Applied Languages. With all of the resources, it is believed that the program should pass the MOE certification as a teacher preparation program and in-depth and continue to improve by the standards of the MOE.

The programtaking staggered and distinctive development as its orientation has established a multi-level and three-dimensional professional development support system and formed a training system of pre-service and in-service education. It will continue to strive to deepen the multi-disciplinary integration of the Chinese language, literature, education, and communication to build a new curriculum with distinction.It will alsoset up studios to invite mentors from the related industries to help students develop individually.

Faculty and Students: There are 27 faculty members who are qualified to meet the needs of teaching and development of the program. Among them, 86.96% have master's degrees and 73.91% have senior academic titles. They graduated from Peking University, Nanjing University, Sichuan University, Lanzhou University, Central China Normal University Southwest University, and some otherprestigiousuniversities. Their specializations include linguistics, pedagogy, psychology, communication, and other disciplines. Among the part-time instructors, there are eight experienced experts and excellent professors, all with senior titles, showing good professionalism and teamwork spirit.

Graduates of the program work at schools,theParty, and government offices, enterprises, or institutions in different districts and counties of Chongqing and other cities in southwestern China.All in all,they have a good social reputation and are highly evaluated by employers.


Advertising Program

The advertising degree program was founded in 2006. Taking "making advertising a vigorous program" as its philosophy, the faculty have been rated as a city-level teaching team by the CMEC, and have set up a CQUE top-quality course (Advertising Planning) and a CQUE first-class course (Comprehensive Advertising Practice), and have established the Research on Public Opinion on New media and Network which is a university-level innovative research platform. The program has established three studios (Advertising Media Training Center, Creative Photography, and Linxi New Media Communication) and a number of student associations for the students of this program. The program has a complete set of practical teaching platforms and school-enterprise cooperation systems. The School of Literature and Communication which hosts this program is a vice president unit and a secretary-general unit of the Chongqing Advertising Association and the secretary-general unit of the Academic Committee.

The program has a task-based talent training mode tailored to the needs of advertising industries, by which students are provided with real projects to work on and authentic training centers to work at. The program has also established a CEA curriculum innovation system and has established and implemented a practical teaching system that focuses on students' core professional abilities.

With a clear school-running orientation, the School has set up modules and courses for this program to meet the needs of the job market. The students of the program have outstanding practical ability and a strong sense of commitment to the advertising industry. They have won many awards in professional competitions such as National College Students Advertising Art Competition and the Chinese College Students Advertising Art Festival Academy Award. Graduates of the program are highly recognized by their employers.

This program enables students to become innovative application-oriented professionals with theoretical knowledge and practical skills of advertising media in the integrated media environment, and with significant expertise in brand promotion, advertising planning creativity, advertising design and production, advertising writing, advertising marketing management, etc.

Over a thousand students have graduated from this program. They engage in advertising planning, advertisement writing, designing, marketing management, brand promotion, and other work in advertising departments of media, advertising agencies, cultural media companies, new media platforms, and other enterprises and institutions. Some of them have started their own cultural media companies or have been admitted to graduate schools. The program has establishedagood reputation in the advertising industry and academic circles.

Network and New Media Program

The CQUE has been offering the Network and New Media program for 12 years. The program was developed from two specializations successively, namely Advertising Design and Production and Chinese Language and Literature (Cultural Media). In September 2015, the program officially started to enroll full-time undergraduates. Currently, there are over 200 students enrolled in the program. Now it has been selected as a CQUE first-class program and is in the top position of Best Chinese Universities Rankings (BCUR) 2021 released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

The program has two specializations, namely Film and Television Post-Production and Integrated Media Communication. The Film and Television Post-Production is a school-enterprise cooperation program jointly offered by CQUE, the MOE National Center for Schooling Development, and Phoenix Education of Phoenix TV Group. The Integrated Media Communication specialization is designed to cultivate all-media application-oriented journalists and professionals who adapt to the in-depth integration of media and the innovative development of the industry. Network and New Media has its own program philosophy and distinction. It has successively established the MOE Innovative Application Model Base for the Integration of Production and Education of Digital Media approved by the MOE National Center for Schooling Development, the Educational Resources Development Platform Based on Immersive Media for Students (a joint project by the central and local governments), and the Experimental Platform for the Development and Teaching of Children's Integrated Media Products funded with a loan from KFW. In 2021, the Phoenix Digital Creative Academy based on the Network and New Media program was selected on the list of the first batch of Model New Colleges in Chongqing. The program also boasts for its strong faculty. Among them, there are 3 professors, 6 doctor degree holders, and many young but experienced instructors. They have set up a series of model teaching projects rated by the MOE or the CMEC as first-class projects.


Fashion Communication Program

Fashion Communication is a bachelor's degree program under the discipline of Journalism and Communication. This program mainly aims at the fashion industry, cultural and creative industries, and related industries in Western China. After completing this program, the students are expected to be fully-fledged journalists specializing in fashion communication, with the structural knowledge of new media communication and creative aesthetics, interdisciplinary thinking and cultural literacy, excellent ideological and moral characters and professional ethicsas well asgood understanding and professional skills of integrated media communication. The students in the program are also expected to use advanced media technologies to create integrated media content andbring out fashion creativity and integrated media technologies, and adapt to the deep integration of media and the rapid development of the fashion industry, using the basic theoretical knowledge and solid writing ability in the field of digital communication and fashion.

Based on the MOE Innovative Application Model Base for the Integration of Production and Education of Digital Media, the Educational Resources Development Platform Based on Immersive Media for Students (a joint project by the central and local governments), and the German KFW loan project, the program has established seven labs, namely the Media Interaction Laboratory, and Media Information Collection Laboratory, Media Interactive Products Development Laboratory, Integrated Media Reading Material Processing Laboratory, and Virtual Special Effects Development Laboratory, and 17 professional studios. To promote the integration of education and the industries, the School is planning to build the Future Image Training and R&D Base with industries and enterprises. The faculty and students won the second prize in China Data News Competition and other four national and provincial level awards (including projects in progress). The program has signed internship agreements with Fengjie Culture and Tourism Commission and other 14 enterprises and institutions.
